A short section of Union Drive, between the MU ramp north entrance and the Morrill Road intersection, will be closed for asphalt repairs from 6 a.m. Aug. 3 to 6 a.m. Aug. 4. CyRide busses that use this section of road will be rerouted for the day.

As part of Reiman Gardens' "Garden Quilt Show" Aug. 13-15, about a dozen classes will be offered on different aspects of quilting. Fees vary from $5 to $33; the class registration deadline is Aug. 7. The full schedule of events (PDF) is online.

Beginning Monday, Aug. 2, and continuing for approximately two weeks, the unleaded and diesel fuel pumps at Transportation Services will be unavailable for fueling university vehicles. The pumps are being replaced to better serve customers. Transportation Services has arranged other fueling options for diesel and unleaded fuel users during this time.
The E-85 pumps are not affected by this project and will remain open throughout the construction process. Questions may be directed to Kathy Wellik, 4-1657, kwellik@iastate.edu.

Comedian Brian Regan, featured in two Comedy Central specials and a guest on numerous Conan O'Brien and David Letterman shows, brings his show to Stephens Auditorium Oct. 7. Tickets, $37.50 each, go on sale July 30 at the Stephens ticket office and through Ticketmaster.

Three ISU faculty are among 40 non-business faculty members nationwide named as 2010-11 Coleman Fellows. The Illinois-based Coleman Foundation funds entrepreneurship education throughout the U.S. ISU fellows are: Peter Keeling, innovation director, Center for Biorenewable Chemicals; Stephen Gilbert, associate director, Virtual Reality Applications Center; and Thomas Brumm, interim director of online learning and director of assessment, College of Engineering, and associate professor of agricultural and biosystems engineering. The grants will fund Keeling's coursework in entrepreneurship within the new graduate minor program in biorenewable chemicals, Gilbert's VRAC Innovation Scouts, and Brumm's ISU BioBus project. Judi Eyles, assistant director at the Pappajohn Center for Entrepreneurship, directs ISU involvement in the fellows program. Fellows receive a $5,000 grant and travel reimbursement up to $2,500.

The Program for Women in Science and Engineering will honor its summer research interns during a poster presentation and reception July 23 in Howe Hall. ISU associate professor Kristen Constant will deliver the keynote speech (1-2 p.m., Howe auditorium), followed by the reception (2-3 p.m., Howe atrium). All are invited; beverages and snacks will be available.

The College of Business' former logistics, operations and management information systems department is known as the department of supply chain and information systems (SCIS), effective July 1. Additionally, the department has combined two undergraduate supply chain management majors into one.

July 23-25 is the third weekend of the summer Iowa Games, and some campus locations again will be the site of competitions. There will be dodgeball and ultimate (Frisbee football) at the Southeast Athletics Complex (July 24); figure skating at the Ames/ISU ice arena (July 24); flag football on the Maple Willow Larch fields (July 24-25); and adult soccer at the Towers fields (July 23-25). Coldwater Golf Links (July 24, 2-person best shot golf) and Ames Middle School (July 24-25, women's 6-on-6 basketball) also are competition sites this weekend.

ISU artist-in-residence Simon Estes' latest CD, Save the Children, Save their Lives, is on sale now through the ISU Alumni Association. The title song premiered during the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa. The cost is $18, including shipping and handling; proceeds benefit The Simon Estes Music High School in Cape Town, South Africa, and will provide scholarships to help students attend Iowa State.

The food science and human nutrition department is offering a five-day evening pasta workshop July 26-30 (5:30-9:30 p.m., 200 MacKay). The Pasta Pasta workshop is $125 and open to the public. Participants will learn about the history, diversity and uses of pasta, including the preparation and consumption of pasta dishes from many different cultures. Reiman Gardens will remain open Sunday night (July 11) through the conclusion of the Ames Jaycees fireworks. Guests are welcome to bring lawn chairs, picnic baskets and coolers; leave the grills and fireworks at home. Gardens admission is $8 for adults, $4 for youth (age 4-7) and free to Iowa State students (with ISU card). The fireworks display, which begins at 10 p.m., also can be viewed from Jack Trice Stadium or Hilton parking lots.

Performing arts enthusiasts have through Friday to become "subscribers" (purchase tickets to three or more events) for the 2010-11 Season at Stephens. Subscribers receive priority seating, up to a 15 percent discount on their tickets, a newsletter, ticket insurance and a ticket exchange option. Single-show tickets go on sale to the public on July 12.

Effective July 1, ISU postal and parcel services eliminated a campus delivery route (going from four routes to three). The net effect is different delivery times for some buildings and nearly an elimination of twice-a-day deliveries. Buildings were alerted to a change in mid-June. The Center for Excellence in Science Education will host its next STEM Education Collaboration coffee July 8 (9-10 a.m., N127 Lagomarcino). All faculty, staff and students are welcome. The coffees are intended to help researchers and educators expand their understanding of STEM projects on campus and open doors for future collaboration.
