The athletics department announced today that it has switched a pair of games in the 2010 schedule. The Cyclones will play Kansas State at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City Sept. 18 (originally scheduled for Oct. 9). K State is the designated home team. Iowa State will host Utah on Oct. 9 (originally scheduled for Sept. 18). Kansas State had requested the change.

Nomination papers are due by Feb. 19 from professional and scientific employees who want to serve on the Professional and Scientific Council. Online elections will be held March 3-12 to choose 15 members of the 37-member council. More information and a nomination form are available online.

President Gregory Geoffroy will take part in the Professional and Scientific Council's monthly open forum Feb. 2 (noon-1 p.m., MU Pioneer Room). The schedule includes presentation of the most recent CYtation Awards to P&S recipients, and a talk by Geoffroy, "The University Presidency: Guiding the Institution Through Challenging Times," first presented in October. There also may be time for a short Q&A with the president. All members of the university community are welcome.

Due to illness, Howie Day is unable to perform at the Maintenance Shop Jan. 27. His performance has been rescheduled for Feb. 2 at 8 p.m. Serena Ryder and Matt Lowell will perform for free as scheduled Jan. 27. All tickets sold for the Howie Day performance this evening will be honored Feb. 2. Ticketholders unable to attend the rescheduled performance may return their tickets for a refund. This must be done in person at the M-Shop ticket office prior to the event.

Two representatives of the Anti-Defamation League: Deborah Batiste, project director in the national office; and Beth Seldin Dotan from the Omaha office; will visit campus Feb. 16 to share their curriculum project, "Echoes and Reflections: A Multimedia Curriculum on the Holocaust." The University Honors Program seeks proposals for honors seminars for fall semester 2010 on topics of current or special interest. Submission deadline is Feb. 10. Applications are due Feb. 15 for the professor-in-charge post in ISU's Carver Academy for a three- to five-year term beginning this summer. The academy provides academic and student affairs support to students who hold the four-year, full-tuition GW Carver scholarship, a merit-based scholarship for multicultural students. Applicants should be tenured ISU faculty members with current knowledge about multicultural education, a history of interaction with ISU multicultural students and applicable administrative or committee experience. A $500 reward is being offered for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the individual(s) who vandalized Forward, a 1984 aluminum sculpture by William King on ISU's central campus. The sculpture, located at the corner of Morrill Road and Osborn Drive, sustained damaged in late September estimated between $5,000 and $10,000. Contact ISU police at 4-4428 with information.

Former Dean of Agriculture Lee Kolmer died Jan. 18 at Kavanaugh Hospice in Des Moines, from congestive heart failure at the age of 82. A visitation will be held Jan. 21 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Hamilton's on Westown Parkway in West Des Moines. A funeral mass will begin at 11 a.m. Jan. 22 at St. Francis of Assisi in West Des Moines.
Kolmer began his 14-year tenure as dean in 1972 and led the college through the farm crisis of the 1980s. Kolmer was featured in the Spring 2008 issue of STORIES in Agriculture and Life Sciences. View obituary.

A group of ISU students with ties to Haiti have organized a campus-wide clothing drive, Jan. 25-29 (8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Multicultural Student Affairs Office, Student Services Building). Clothing may be new or used. Jeans and T-shirts of all sizes especially would be appreciated, but any donation will be welcomed. Organizers are working with Body of Christ Church in Ames to get the clothing to Haiti.

The History Channel program "Modern Marvels" is exploring the topic of eggs and will feature several Iowa State experts on the show scheduled to air Jan. 21 (7 p.m.). The show airs on channel 45 on Mediacom in Ames and Des Moines. It also will air on channel 269 for DirecTV customers and channel 120 for those with Dish Network. The semi-annual study abroad fair is Thursday, Jan. 28 (11 a.m.-2 p.m., MU Great Hall). This event puts students in direct contact with program directors offering study-abroad options in many countries so students can get answers to their questions and decide which program best fits their interests and needs.

The kinesiology department will offer a 10-week "Swim and Gym" session for children ages five to 12 years starting Feb. 2. The University Academic Advising Committee (UAAC) is planning a follow-up presentation of "Ten Advising Vignettes: Scenarios to Improve Your Advising Techniques" Feb. 11 (3-5 p.m., Pioneer Room, MU). Patagonia founder and environmentalist Yvon Chouinard kicks off Iowa State's Symposium on Sustainability with a talk the evening of Feb. 23 in the Memorial Union. A full day of presentations about green activities, both on campus and off, will follow on Feb. 24. Students, faculty and staff may attend all or parts of the conference as well as the noon lunch for free. The event also will be webcast. Those planning to attend are asked to register online.

The Col. Pride Lounge in the Memorial Union will be re-dedicated as the Col. Pride Veterans' Lounge Jan. 20 (10 a.m.-noon, program at 10:15 a.m.). Creating a veterans' lounge in the Memorial Union came as a request from the ISU Student Veterans' Association to the Memorial Union Advisory Board. The Graduate and Professional Student Senate provided some funding for a refurbishment of the lounge. It includes new furniture, computer work stations, a posting/message area, flags for each branch of the military and a display of medals awarded to service personnel listed in Gold Star Hall. The lounge will remain open to the public.
