Participants sought for 2012 Emerging Leaders Academy

by Paula Van Brocklin

Know an outstanding Iowa State faculty or staff member who demonstrates excellent leadership abilities? Consider nominating him or her for the 2012 Emerging Leaders Academy (ELA).

Sponsored by the Office of the Executive Vice President and Provost, ELA is a university-wide program designed to enhance leadership development for qualified faculty and staff. Candidates must be tenured faculty or professional and scientific employees (level P35 or higher) who currently are in leadership positions or who hope to serve as leaders in the future. Anyone may nominate candidates online (using Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome web browsers) by Oct. 10. If you have trouble accessing the online nomination form, contact John Taylor, 4-6142. Selected participants will be notified by Nov. 15.

ELA classes will begin in January 2012 and meet monthly, except June and July, through December 2012.

"An immensely talented group of on-campus and outside experts will help ELA participants develop and refine leadership skills," said Elizabeth Hoffman, executive vice president and provost. "Class members will attend 10 sessions and explore such topics as mentoring, decision-making styles, organizational theory, interpersonal communication and effects of gender and diversity issues on work teams."
