Coming home

After a 35-year absence from the college, Christian Petersen's original (1938) terra cotta sculpture of The Gentle Doctor was reinstalled Monday morning inside the entrance of Veterinary Medicine's new small animal hospital. A team of Central Stores and other facilities management employees assisted with the historic task (left). Without a pedestal, the statue stands 6 feet, 9 inches tall. It is beloved for capturing the bond between humans and animals. Photo by Bob Elbert.
