Annual Shrine Bowl is July 23
by Erin Rosacker
It's North vs. South in the 39th Iowa Shrine Bowl all-star football game July 23 at Jack Trice Stadium. Some of the state's best high school players will face off at 7 p.m. in the annual event.
In addition to 92 football players, there are all-star cheerleaders (60) and dance team members (14) practicing this week on campus. To beat the excessive heat, some of the practices are being held in the Bergstrom Indoor Practice Facility and the Lied Center. The all-stars also will spend time with children who benefit from the Shriners hospitals during "minicamps."
A parade will kick off Saturday's festivities, beginning at 9:30 a.m. on Main Street. An autograph session with players will follow in Tom Evans Plaza. Game tickets are $10 in advance, or $15 at the gate. Proceeds support the Shriners Hospitals for children.
