Sixth Street to close at University Boulevard for four weeks

The stretch of Sixth Street between University Boulevard and the entrance to Brookside Park will close for four weeks, beginning June 3. The road's accompanying bike path also will be closed.

That portion of the road is part of ISU's institutional roads system. Mike Parsons, construction manager in facilities planning and management, said last year's flood waters further damaged the already deteriorating road surface. Both lanes will be replaced as part of the project.

Access to Brookside Park and the Ames High School baseball field is available only from the east. However, a city road project also has closed Sixth Street between Northwestern and Grand Avenue. Visitors can access Sixth Street from the south via Hazel Avenue, or from the north via Brookridge, Ridgewood or Northwestern avenues.
