Search for associate provost is under way

by Diana Pounds

The search for an associate provost for academic personnel is on a fast track, executive vice president and provost Elizabeth Hoffman said in a recent letter to campus officials. Applications for the position are encouraged by June 14 and will be accepted until the position is filled.

Carlson to UC

The new associate provost will succeed Susan Carlson, who recently accepted a position at the University of California. Carlson will join the UC system as vice provost of academic personnel in July.

"We will miss Susan greatly and need to find a worthy successor soon," Hoffman said in the letter. "Given the demands of this important position, we would like to name a successor from among our full professors with some administrative experience, as quickly as possible."

The associate provost will provide leadership for developing and sustaining programs, policies and initiatives to recruit, retain, review and advance faculty.

Search committee

College of Design dean Luis Rico-Gutierrez will chair the search committee. Other search committee members are Micheal Owen, agronomy; Camille Sloan Schroeder, Engineering; Dee Draper, human development and family studies; Francesca Galarraga, equal opportunity and diversity; and Kathryn Overberg, university counsel.

Applications, nominations

Applications for the position must be submitted online through the ISU Jobs website.

Nominations can be sent to search committee chair Rico-Gutierrez, lrico@iastate.edu.
