New web site is hub for research participant opportunities

by Anne Krapfl

Research teams in need of volunteer human subjects for their studies have a new recruiting tool. The Vice President for Research and Economic Development website now includes a corner for such postings. Research participant opportunities can be accessed from the office's homepage (click on "Participants needed" in the right "Quick Links" section).

How to use it

To post a notice on the new site, researchers should create and include an additional document in their Institutional Review Board (IRB) application. In that document (called an advertisement), a researcher provides nine pieces of information:

  • IRB ID No.
  • Principal investigator (PI)
  • Purpose of the study
  • Description of research procedures
  • Participant requirements
  • Compensation
  • Contact for more information about the study
  • Deadline for application to participate
  • Date approved by PI for posting to site

When a proposal in search of human participants has received IRB approval, the researcher then forwards his or her advertisement to Laurie Engleen, 4-6344, in the vice president's office. That document is posted on the research participant opportunities website as a PDF file.

Members of the ISU community who want to participate in a study should follow the directions in the "contact for more information" section of the advertisement.
