What will you be doing
during the undergraduate commencement ceremony?
Hollis Monroe
WOI Radio producer
I'm the master of ceremonies, which means I do most of the introductions for
speakers, Dr. Geoffroy and guests. I also read the names of the graduates
and try not to screw up too much. You can always tell if you get the names
right because family members recognize them and start
cheering. |

Mike Golemo
Director of bands
I'll be busy conducting a brass and percussion ensemble. We perform all the
traditional music throughout commencement, including Pomp and
Circumstance. We also get to perform an interlude in the middle of the
ceremony, entitled Cyclone Fantasia, which is a medley of our school
songs I wrote about two years ago. This medley ends with ISU Fights,
which usually gets the graduates standing and clapping
along. |

We line students up and get them ready to process into Hilton Coliseum. In
other words, we take absolute chaos (lost line-up cards, lost students,
wrong tassels) and organize it into a formal ceremony. |

Laura Doering
Associate registrar
I orchestrate commencement -- both behind the scenes and "show time." With
the help of a talented faculty and staff, I coordinate the many details that
lead to successful undergraduate and graduate commencement ceremonies. I
also manage the on site commotion that tends to accompany large events
having so many important players. Commencement is at the top of my
favorites list. |
