Summer olympiad will alter traffic, parking on May 20-21
| Weekend for Olympians
The Iowa Special Olympics Summer Games will be held on campus May 20-22.
Opening ceremonies begin at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 20, at Hilton Coliseum.
More than 800 volunteers are needed to provide a variety of services, such
as fielding softballs, congratulating athletes and escorting them to award
areas. Volunteers work half-day shifts Thursday and Friday or Saturday

The Iowa Special Olympics Summer Games are expected to draw 3,000 Special
Olympians and their families to campus. Several traffic and parking changes
will be in effect:
- Wallace Road will be closed to through traffic from 8 a.m. to 10
p.m. Thursday and Friday.
- Parking lots at the Iowa State Center, Center Drive and South Fourth
Street will be closed Thursday for cycling events. Commuter parking will be
moved to stadium parking lots S2 through S8.
- Several campus lots will be affected on Friday. They are:
- Lot 3 (between Beyer and Howe halls), closed except for
vehicles with handicap or 24-hour reserve permits
- Lot 50A (by Forker), closed except for vehicles with handicap
permits
- Lot 57 (west side of Lied), closed except for vehicles with
reserve, handicap or Special Olympics permits
- Lot 100 (south side of Lied), closed except for vehicles with
Special Olympics permits
