What is your vision for Iowa State University in the next five to 10
years?
Reg Souleyrette
professor, civil, construction and environmental engineering
I see a continued transition from educating Iowa students for Iowa to
educating them for the world. That said, we can't lose sight of where we are
and how we're connected to Iowa. I also hope we no longer have to worry
about the budget. We do have a lot of capacity to generate funding,
especially as our research programs continue to grow. Some areas, like
engineering, can do it easier than other areas, but I think we all will need
to help where we can. In general, I like what we have now. While we should
try to become better, I think we should realize and take pride that ISU is
an excellent university.

Elaine Edwards
communications manager, ISU Extension
I would like to see a university that helps Iowans achieve their dreams for
the state, is focused on education and not the budget, is a life-long
learning center for Iowans and the world, and leads the nation in fulfilling
its land-grant mission and extension role. I see a university that's at the
forefront in providing information for groups with shared interests, such as
community leaders coming to Iowa State and working on economic development
together. And, I see a university that develops new educational models to
attract students, both on and off campus. |
Sanjeev Agarwal
professor of marketing and Faculty Senate president-elect
I would like Iowa State to be one of the leading institutions of choice for
students nationwide, especially for those who want to build careers in
science and technology. ISU can enhance its image as a high-quality
institution by recruiting and retaining internationally renowned faculty and
differentiate itself by focusing on educating students to be innovative and
enterprising. ISU should strive to become an institution where previously
unsolved problems are solved to enhance the lives of people around the world
and where the students and faculty take the risks to bring those solutions
to the people and the market. |
