Spring ahead
Daylight saving time begins at 2 a.m. Sunday, April 4. Don't forget to turn

Geoffroy, Skorton on Talk
President Gregory Geoffroy and University of Iowa president David Skorton
will be guests during the 10 a.m. hour of Talk of Iowa on Wednesday,
April 14. The call-in show will originate from Iowa City during that hour;
the toll-free line for questions is 1-866-780-9100. Talk of Iowa is
heard in central Iowa on WOI-AM 640.
Certification program meets
The year-round Non-Profit Management Academy, a certificate program,
continues with one-day sessions on outcomes assessment (April 14) and
legislative and legal issues (May 12). The program is for anyone seeking
professional development in nonprofit work. Certification requires nine
classes for a total of six continuing education units. Classes meet in the
ISU Foundation Center; the cost is $50 per class. For more information, call

Wilderness course offered
A 16-hour first-aid course for remote and wilderness areas will be offered
from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. May 8 and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 9 at the 4-H camp near
Madrid. It is required by the American Camping Association for staff and
volunteers leading youth on trips into remote areas. Cost is $100; lodging
and meals are not included. Registration is due by April 15 and requires a

Nobel laureate to lecture
Alexei Abrikosov, one of the three winners of the 2003 Nobel Prize in
Physics "for pioneering contributions to the theory of superconductors and
superfluids" will present a physics colloquium, "Superconductivity: History
and Modern State," at 4:10 p.m., Monday, April 12, in 5 Physics.

The Student Activities Center is working to bring a circle of Omicron Delta
Kappa, the national leadership honor society, to Iowa State. Faculty or
staff who are members of ODK and interested in helping to establish the
group on campus should contact Vernon Wall at

Seminar on legal research
The next Library Seminar will focus on Westlaw Campus, a legal research
tool, and compare it to Lexis/Nexis Academic. The seminar will be Wednesday,
April 14. Another seminar on citation indexes will be held Thursday, April
22. That seminar will examine ISU Web of Knowledge. Both seminars run from
3:15 to 4:30 p.m. in 192 Parks. Register with Susan Vega Garcia,
