Consolation champion

Iowa State's Kurt Backes and Nebraska's Travis Pascoe work for control in the 184 pound match for third place at the Big 12 wrestling championship March 6 in Ames. Backes was one of five Cyclones to capture third place in their weight classes. Cyclone Nate Gallick, 141 pounds, was the team's lone conference champion; Zach Roberson was second at 133 pounds. With a wild card selection awarded to Travis Paulson, eight Cyclone wrestlers advance to the NCAA national tournament in St. Louis March 18-20. Photo by Gary Clarke.
