Diversity, disability programs merged for March 23
The March 23 President's Dialogue on Diversity
will look at campus and classroom accessibility issues for students with
disabilities of numerous kinds.
The dialogue has merged with a program planned for that day as part of Iowa
State's annual disability awareness days.
Students will lead discussion
A panel of ISU students living with various disabilities -- including
physical, learning and mental health -- will talk about their experiences
with academic and general accessibility from 12:30 to 2 p.m. in the Memorial
Union Sun Room. The discussion will be preceded by a free buffet lunch at
noon in the Great Hall.
Lunch participants should register by Friday, March 19. Faculty and staff
should register via
AccessPlus (click on "prof dvlp rgstr,"" search courses"
and type in "diversity"). Students should register by calling 4-1909.
Hanson on academic success for all
From 2 to 4 p.m. in the Memorial Union Gold Room, Elizabeth Hanson, the
associate director of the teaching center at the University of Arizona, will
talk about promoting academic success for all students. Her talk will focus
on disability and diversity as they intersect with educators' concern for
student learning. All are welcome to attend her talk as well.
Thursday session on disability awareness
A second panel of students will talk about their experiences with
accessibility to campus from noon to 1:30 p.m. Thursday, March 25, in the
Memorial Union Gold Room. A light lunch will be served. From 2 to 4 p.m., in
the same location, Hanson will lead a second workshop on "invisible" student
disabilities and how faculty can become more aware of them in the classroom.
Registration to the Thursday events is requested. Call 4-2906, or e-mail the
