March is Women's History Month

Iowa State will celebrate Women's History Month with a variety of lectures and a comedy performance.

Events begin at 7 p.m. tonight (March 1) with a talk by Lucy Lippard, a contributing editor to Art in America and a former critic for The Village Voice and Z Magazine. Her talk, "Not by Design," will be held in the Kocimski Auditorium in the Design College.

The keynote address, "The Shoulders We Stand On: Women as Agents of Change," will be given by Louise Bernikow, beginning at 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 2, in the Memorial Union Sun Room. Bernikow is an activist, author and feminist scholar. She will discuss the history of women's activism in this country.

"Confessions of the Guerrilla Girls" will begin at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 3, in the Sun Room. The Guerrilla Girls are a group of anonymous women activists who put on gorilla masks to hide their faces as they assume the names of obscure dead female artists.

Margaret Cho will present her comedic views on the contemporary social and political scene during a performance beginning at 8 p.m. Thursday, March 4, at Stephens Auditorium.

Former editor of the Des Moines Register Geneva Overholser will give a talk titled "Name the Accuser and the Accused: Reconsidering the Coverage of Rape." Her talk begins at 8 p.m. Monday, March 8, in the Sun Room.

Following is the Women's History Month schedule. All events are free. For more information, contact the ISU Lectures Program, (515) 294-9935.
