Photography lecture is March 9
Art and design professor Mary Stieglitz, who is the 2003-04 Distinguished
Scholar in the Center for Excellence in the Arts and Humanities, will
present results of her research and creative activity at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday,
March 9, in the Memorial Union Sun Room.
Her presentation will focus on the informative power of photography, and the
potential of photographic images to help us see, sense, know and respond to
our world. Stieglitz works in both traditional and digital (wide-format)
photography and studies imaging history. Her images focus on the patterns of
nature.
"As a photographer, I am fascinated by the visible patterns of our natural
world," Stieglitz said. "Their relationship to the larger myths and
metaphors in our collective language of vision reveals both parallel and
paradox."
The Center for Excellence in the Arts and Humanities will host a free buffet
reception for Stieglitz from 6 to 7 p.m. in the Campanile Room.
