Council ballot needs your name
by Anne Krapfl
Sixteen seats will be filled in the Professional and Scientific Council
election later this semester. Voting, via AccessPlus, opens March 1 and
closes March 26. The deadline to nominate candidates is Friday, Feb.
20.
With the addition of two new seats, council membership will grow to 35
following this election. Each council member represents approximately 75 P&S
employees. New seats have been created in the areas of student affairs and
academic and research.
The duties
In addition to a monthly afternoon meeting of several hours, council members
are asked to serve on one standing committee of the council. Different
committees function differently, depending on the time of year, but
generally, the council commitment is four to 10 hours monthly; and more for
elected officers of the council.
The opportunity
All six areas of representation on the council have open seats. Terms begin
in June and are for three years, except where noted to fill shortened terms
due to resignations or to keep a balance in the staggered election process.
The six areas are:
- Academic and research, 6 open seats (including one 1-year term)
- Business and finance, 2
- Extension, 2
- External affairs, 1 (a 1-year term)
- IPRT & Ames Lab, 2
- Student affairs, 3 (one 1-year and one 2-year term)
The nomination form is available on the council's election Web site. P&S employees may
nominate themselves or other PS& staff. Nominations should be sent to Del
Marks, 1104 Extension 4-H/Youth Building, e-mail: delmarks@iastate.edu.
Extension candidates should send their nominations to Steve Karsjen, 111
TASF, e-mail: karsjen@ameslab.gov. (Marks' Extension term expires this year
and he is seeking re-election.) Questions should be directed to Marks,
4-9807.
