Bill of Rights takes the institute stage next week
The 2004 Institute on National Affairs opens Monday, Feb. 2, with a lecture
by National Rifle Association president and former Des Moines assistant
police chief Kayne Robinson. Robinson will share the NRA perspective on
early amendments to the U.S. Constitution. The 2004 institute will look at
threats to the Bill of Rights (the first 10 amendments to the constitution
adopted as a unit in 1791).
Institute events wrap up five weeks later, on March 8, when former Des
Moines Register editor Geneva Overholser will talk about how newspapers
ought to cover rape cases. Overholser has been at the University of Missouri
School of Journalism since September 2000.
All events are free and in the Memorial Union Sun Room.
