ISU surpasses United Way campaign goal
The Iowa State University community has raised more than
$265,500 during its 2003 ISU United Way of Story County campaign, a record
amount that surpasses the campaign goal of $264,000, announced Richard
Seagrave, distinguished professor emeritus and chair of the university
campaign.
The total includes a record level of donations for Habitat for Humanity,
which will receive more than $33,000 from the university campaign. Habitat
for Humanity funds are used to build homes for local, low-income families.
The campus campaign reflects a 5.9 percent increase over last year's record
total of $250,600.
Seagrave credited the 99 campus volunteers and leadership in the campus
units for the success of the campaign.
"The Iowa State University community is a caring, sharing one and it
certainly was demonstrated this year with the generosity of many in helping
those less fortunate," Seagrave said. "Each donation made this goal a
reality."
During the Dec. 8 United Way of Story County campaign celebration, the
Ames-ISU YMCA, YWCA of Ames-ISU and University Community Childcare received
the 100 Percent Participation Award and ISU Foundation received the Star
Performance Award. Several units significantly exceeded their goals,
including ISU Students, department of athletics, colleges of Agriculture and
Business, facilities planning and management, ISU Extension, research
administration and the Graduate College.
The overall United Way of Story 2003 Campaign has raised $1,155,374,
surpassing its $1,070,000 goal and reflecting a 10 percent increase over
last year's donations.
Funds raised by United Way of Story County support 98 services that are
provided to more than 30,000 county residents, including many Iowa State
faculty, staff and students.
