No quorum at senate meeting
Lack of a quorum Dec. 9 prevented the Faculty Senate from voting on a policy
intended to assure faculty a voice when academic units are reorganized. The
proposed policy calls for discussion, planning and review phases. The senate
is expected to vote on the policy at its January meeting.
Proposals sought
The Center for Integrated Animal Genomics is accepting proposals to support
scholarship in integrated genomics. Proposals are due Feb. 2 and will be
made available for the period of July 1, 2004, to Aug. 31, 2005. More

Reduced CyRide service
CyRide will operate under its "Saturday Break" schedule Friday, Dec. 26, and
Monday, Dec. 29, through Wednesday, Dec. 31. CyRide will add extra buses on
the Red, Green and Blue routes from 6:30 to 7:30 a.m. to accommodate faculty
and staff.
There will be no Orange route shuttle on these four days; regular Orange
route riders may park their vehicles on campus in lots 29 or 50. More

Business cafe to open
ISU Dining's newest food outlet, the "Business Cafe" in the Bergstrom Commons
on the first floor of the Gerdin Business Building, will open officially
Friday, Jan. 9. The cafe's selection includes breakfast pastries, desserts,
pre-made sandwiches, fresh fruit, salads, bottled beverages and gourmet
coffee. Service hours will be 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday-Friday. Faculty and
staff can use the ISU Dining charge plan (an option on your ISUCard) at this
location.
Gateway Center remodels
Some of the guest rooms at The Hotel at Gateway Center will be closed for
remodeling from mid-December to mid-February. Part of the hotel will remain
open during the renovation for previously booked conferences and parties.

Free evening child care
Free child care from 6 to 9 p.m. Dec. 15-18 will be offered at the
University Child Care Center at Veterinary Medicine for children
6 weeks to 12 years of age. Enroll-ment is limited and children must be
pre-registered to attend. Priority is given to ISU student families. For

United Way nearly at goal
Donors to Iowa State's United Way campaign have given nearly 5 percent more
this year than last. This year's total currently is $263,412 --
99.7 percent of the $264,000 goal. Donations still will be accepted. Contact
the volunteer in your unit
or send donations to Kathy Emmel, Office of the Controller, 3607 ASB.
Tree, wreath sale sold out
The Forestry Club and the student chapter of the Society of American
Foresters have sold all the trees, wreaths and firewood they had, so this
weekend's (Dec. 12-14) scheduled sale at Reiman Gardens is cancelled.
