FCS dean search put on hold
The search for a new dean of the College of Family and Consumer Sciences has
been delayed until after Feb. 1. Vice president for academic affairs and
provost Benjamin Allen made the announcement Nov. 7, after consulting with
Veterinary Medicine dean and search committee chair Norman Cheville.
The search committee, which began its work in June, was at the point of
identifying finalists to bring to campus for interviews.
Allen said the decision is linked to a broader review of the university's
organizational structure that is under way.
"The most recent budget news has prompted a review of the administrative
structures on campus, including colleges. At the request of President
(Gregory) Geoffroy, we have begun a study of the structure of our colleges
that likely will be completed by mid-January," Allen noted. "I decided that
it is not fair or appropriate to ask finalists to proceed to a very
public phase in the search until then."
Allen said he had spoken with all the candidates still being considered and
asked them to remain in the pool.
