Retirement reception
A retirement reception for Dean Hutchison, assistant director for
Administrative Technology Services, will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Friday,
Oct. 31, in the Memorial Union Pioneer Room. A short program will begin at
2:45 p.m. Hutchison has worked for ISU for more than 28 years.
Retirement reception
A retirement reception for Lois Miller, secretary for the department of
foreign languages and literatures, will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Friday, Nov. 14, in 302 Pearson.
Flu shot clinic opens next week
Flu shots will be provided to faculty and staff from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
weekdays from Oct. 29 through Nov. 21 in 205 Technical and Administrative
Service Facility (limited parking available in front of the building).
Occupational Medicine staff will administer the immunizations, which are
provided by ISU at no cost to the employee. For information, call 4-0874.
Network application upgrades will affect Mac OS 9 users
In response to increasing security needs, AIT will upgrade several network
applications so that Net-ID/password authentication will be allowed only
over encrypted connections (including those to "isua.iastate.edu" servers).
The upgrade is scheduled to take effect Jan. 6, 2004. The changes will
affect Mac OS 9 users. More information is online at

Old phone books can be recycled
Rather than toss your old phone books (ISU directory, McLeodUSA and
QuestDex), you can recycle them. Drop them at a pick-up spot (usually in
your building). Volunteers will pick up the old books Dec. 6. More info:

Some midterm grades posted on AccessPlus
Fall 2003 midterm grades of C-, D, F and M (not attending) can be viewed on
AccessPlus. Choose "Grades and Transcripts" and then "View Grade Report."
Students who have midterms will see a "Fall 2003 midterm" choice; those
students with no midterms will see only "Fall 2003." No additional midterms
will be posted for this fall term.
New home for MSE department
The materials science and engineering department will move to 2220 Hoover
Hall, effective Tuesday, Oct. 28. Phone and fax numbers, and e-mail
addresses remain the same. The department zip code changes to 50011-2300.
