National award
Grad students Antonio Jose Moreira, plant pathology, and Axel Elling, genetics, have received national awards from the Storkan-Hanes-McCaslin Research Foundation for their research on soilborne pathogens.

Distinguished paper
Thomas Alsbury, assistant professor of educational leadership and policy studies, has earned the 2003 Distinguished Paper Award from the American Educational Research Associations Consortium of State and Regional Educational Research Associations.

Newcomer award
Brian Steward, agricultural and biosystems engineering assistant professor, has received the 2003 Newcomer Engineer of the Year award from the Iowa Section of the American Society of Agricultural Engineers. Stewards research has focused on reducing environmental impacts of agriculture through engineering solutions and precision application of fertilizers and pesticides.

Blue Ribbon award
Associate professors Tom Glanville and Tom Richard, agricultural and biosystems engineering department, have received a Blue Ribbon Award in the 2003 Educational Aids competition sponsored by the American Society of Agricultural Engineers for their Web page Using Compost for a Safer Environment. Grad student Russell Persyn assisted them.
