Biotech food is focus of Oct. 3 program

The food science and human nutrition department will host a program on the potential impact of biotechnology on Iowa's food and health industries Friday, Oct. 3, in the Food Sciences Building.

Experts from on and off campus will speak on biotechnology initiatives in Iowa, safety aspects of biotechnology, how biotechnology can influence nutrition and health, and the department's contributions in food and nutritional biotechnology. The industry perspective will be discussed by a panel of business people from the private sector.

The program is part of the department's open house. Registration begins at 1 p.m. in the lobby next to 1041 Food Sciences. The program runs from 1:45 to 4:30 p.m. in room 1095, followed by a poster session, tours and social hour. A picnic in the LeBaron courtyard begins at 6 p.m. The event is free, but registration is requested. Register online at http://www.fcs.iastate.edu/fshn/openhouse/default.htm, or call 4-4432.
