Budget advisory committee begins its work
President Gregory Geoffroy met for the first time this week with a new
President's Advisory Committee on Budget Priorities and Planning. Geoffroy
will chair the committee, one of several groups that he and the vice
presidents will consult as the 2004-05 budget is put together.
The advisory committee, smaller in size than past groups, will offer
guidance on university-wide budget issues. The president and each vice
president will meet with key groups in their areas to involve more
university members in the budget process.
Geoffroy also said he and the vice presidents will appoint task forces as
needed to study specific issues.
The university community again is invited to forward helpful ideas to
planners. Input about specific budget items should be sent to the
appropriate vice president. Input regarding university-wide budget issues
should be sent to the advisory committee via Mark Chidister, assistant to
the president for budget planning and analysis, e-mail: markc@iastate.edu.
Geoffroy said he is committed to keeping the campus community informed
throughout the budget development process.
Joining Geoffroy and Chidister on the committee are Jack Girton, Faculty
Senate president; Sanjeev Agarwal, Faculty Senate president-elect; Mike
Banasiak, Government of the Student Body president; Dee Egdorf, Graduate and
Professional Student Senate president; Kevin Kane, Professional and
Scientific Council president; Pat Murphy, University professor of food
science and human nutrition; Lynn Paxson, associate professor of
architecture; Max Rothschild, Distinguished professor of animal science;
Patricia Thiel, Distinguished professor of chemistry; and R. Bruce Thompson,
Distinguished professor of materials science engineering.
