Top picksFootball, ISU vs. Northern IowaAug. 30, 6 p.m.,
 Jack Trice Stadium
Going back to 1990, Iowa State leads the intra-state series 3-2. This is the
season opener. The late start lets you avoid the hottest part of the day and
hey, don't we all know a "Panther" we're pretty fond of?

 Mo Rocca
 Sept. 4, 8 p.m., Stephens Auditorium
It's free and a rare chance to see live one of those talented nuts on cable
TV who crack us up. (See story)

 Dedication,
 Union Drive Community Center
 Sept. 5, 3 p.m.
Come celebrate as the residence department opens the jewel of its
in-development Union Drive neighborhood. It's not just for students; the
place has lots of perks you'll enjoy, too. Refreshments and tours are
free.

 Carillon concert
 Sept. 7, 3 p.m.
Bid farewell to summer during this last entry in the music department's
summer carillon concert series. The guest artist is Daniel Kehoe of
Hartford, Conn. The concert is free and, if you like, there's a tour of the
campanile afterwards. Bring your own lawn chairs to central campus.
