Lewis leaves AIT director position
by John McCarroll
Dorothy Lewis, director of the Office of Academic Information Technologies
(AIT), will leave the position, effective June 30.
Benjamin Allen, vice president for academic affairs and provost, praised
Lewis for her leadership and innovation as director of AIT.
Allen said Lewis decided five months ago she wanted to step down, but he
asked that she continue until the end of the fiscal year. Lewis was named
director in May 2002 after serving as interim director (20002002) and
associate director (1993-2000).
Ive been with Iowa State for 23 years, and will greatly miss working with
the AIT staff and so many other people, but I have other interests and want
to take time to pursue them, Lewis said. I am extremely proud of the
progress we have made in expanding and upgrading our high-performance
computing resources, developing our geographic information systems
facilities, supporting online learning, and assisting faculty and students
in taking advantage of the information technology services here.
An interim director will be named soon. A search also is under way for a
chief information officer, a position Lewis says is critical to the ongoing
development of information technologies at Iowa State.
