Preserving a strong reputation
"We have made it a priority to try to halt, or at least slow, the rapid pace
of decreasing public support for our state universities. Your teaching, your
research, your outreach and your professional service all contribute to the
reputation of Iowa State University as a leading land-grant university, but
they also contribute to the state of Iowa's reputation as a state that holds
education and public service as a very top priority."
-- Owen Newlin, president of the Board of Regents, State of Iowa, speaking
May 6 to the Faculty Senate
