Geoffroy, Dowling on WOI
Director of financial aid Earl Dowling will join President Gregory Geoffroy
on WOI-AM's Talk of Iowa Tuesday, Oct. 15. The call-in show airs from
10 to 11 a.m. on WOI-AM (640). Questions may be sent in advance to
talk@iastate.edu.
Geoffroy to speak at senate
President Gregory Geoffroy will speak to the Faculty Senate at the Tuesday,
Oct. 15 meeting. The senate will convene at 7:30 p.m. in the Prairie Room,
Gateway Center.
Workers comp information sessions scheduled
Information sessions on "Workers Compensation -- What Supervisors Need to
Know" will be held from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23, and Tuesday,
Oct. 29, in the Memorial Union Gallery. Interested supervisors should call
Dawn Hitsman, 4-7711, to register.
Free flu shots offered
Free flu shots will be provided to faculty and staff from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
weekdays from Oct. 31 through Nov. 22 in 205 Technical and Administrative
Service Facility (limited parking available in front of the building).
Occupational Medicine staff will administer the immunizations. For
information, call 4-0874.
LC proposals sought
An information session on starting new learning communities for fall 2003
will be held from 4 to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 15, in 2510 Beardshear. Corly
Brooke and Doug Gruenewald, co-directors of learning communities, will
discuss the funding process and other considerations for starting learning
communities. Proposals for funding new learning communities are due Nov. 1.

PFF deadline approaches
Applications for the Preparing Future Faculty program are due Oct. 28. The
program -- for master's and Ph.D. students and post-docs -- supplements
departmental graduate preparation for faculty careers. More information and

Run benefits Special Olympics
Iowa State will co-sponsor a 5k fun walk/run beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday,
Oct. 19, at the university's cross country course. The entry fee is $20.
Participants may preregister at the Lied Center or register at the cross
country course the day of the event. More information about the event is
available at the Lied Center. Proceeds from the event will benefit the
Special Olympics program.
Cholesterol screening offered
A cholesterol screening clinic, available to faculty, staff and students,
will be held Oct. 14-26 at the student health center. A minimum of 12 hours
of fasting (water only) is required prior to testing. Testing will be done
from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday, 8 a.m.
to 6 p.m. Thursday and Friday, and 8 a.m. to noon Saturday.
Postal, parcel workshops set
Training and Development staff will hold workshops on "Working with Postal
and Parcel Services" from 1:15 to 3 p.m. Oct. 15 and Oct. 17 in the main
floor conference room, General Services Building.
