After five
Ever wonder where your co-workers are headed at the end of the day? This
Inside feature catches up with university employees "after five." Photo
by Gary Clarke.
Name: Paul Lasley
By day, he's: Professor and chair, department of sociology
After five, he's: Bass player, The Guys (jazz/big band instrumental
combo)
Walks the bass: Two to three gigs per month, typically receptions,
parties, "whenever we can get a crowd."
Choicest chart: Mack the Knife, "because it's easy to dance to
and the crowd always knows it."
Music strikes a chord: "Because it's a diversion from work. I also
really enjoy music -- it's part of who I am. When the band is really
clicking, and you know to change keys or a rhythm just by a wink or a nod,
there's something really special about that."
