Geoffroy names budget, planning advisory committee
by Diana Pounds
Last year's budget task force has evolved into an ongoing advisory committee
to President Gregory Geoffroy.
"The task force was very helpful as we worked through the budget challenges
of the past year," Geoffroy said. "I'm institutionalizing the committee and
intend to use it regularly to provide me and the university with budget
planning and advice."
The 16-member committee, led by Provost Benjamin Allen, has a new name --
the President's Advisory Committee on Budget and Planning.
The president has asked the committee to make recommendations on improving
the effectiveness and efficiency of Iowa State and to ensure that budget
priorities are in line with university goals and the strategic plan.
"Advancing the academic excellence of Iowa State University is the top
priority," Geoffroy said in a letter to the committee.
Allen said he was pleased with the committee make-up. "Committee members
will be able to bring meaningful insights, multiple perspectives and solid
strategic thinking to the process."
He added, "We will seek broad input from the campus community, as
appropriate, as we review the budget and planning situations and develop
recommendations for the president."
Committee members are:
Benjamin J. Allen, provost; Paul Anderson, professor of landscape
architecture; Mark Chidister, assistant to the president for budget planning
and analysis; Niki Davis, professor of curriculum and instructional
technology; Kerry Dixon, project manager, facilities planning and
management; Dee Egdorf, graduate student of human development and family
studies; Jack Girton, associate professor of zoology and genetics;
