Hall of Fame banquet is Sept. 6
The Iowa State Letterwinners Club will honor 2002 ISU Hall of Fame inductees
during a Sept. 6 banquet at The Hotel at Gateway Center. Tickets are $35 per
person; contact Diane Shearer, 4-5022, to purchase tickets.
This year's inductees include Dick Barker, Iowa State's first
football All-American (1919); Bill Cain, men's basketball (1968-70)
and two-time conference rebounding champion; Carol Cook, Big Eight
women's cross country champion in 1976; Diane Doles, all-Big Eight
volleyball player and ISU's female athlete of the year in 1983; and Jim
Gibbons, 1981 NCAA 134-pound wrestling champion and coach of the Cyclone
1987 NCAA championship team.
Also Keith Krepfle, football tight end with 94 career receptions
(1971-73); Mal Schmidt, six-time letter winner in football and
swimming and ISU athlete of the year in 1951; Brent Simmons, winner
of three Big Eight gymnastics titles in 1970 and member of the 1971 NCAA
championship team; Sunday Uti, second-place finisher in the 400
meters at multiple indoor and outdoor NCAA championships (1983-85); and
Tom Watkins, first-team all-Big Eight and All-American running back
in 1960.
