KC events planned as part of pre-season football classic
by Anne Krapfl
The Cyclone football team will play the Florida State Seminoles in the fifth
annual Eddie Robinson Classic at Arrowhead Stadium, Kansas City, on
Saturday, Aug. 24. Game time is 7:30 p.m. Fox Sports Net will televise the
game nationally.
For those who want to make the drive, game tickets, $35-$55, are available
through TicketMaster and at the Arrowhead Stadium ticket office.
Game-related activities in Kansas City planned by the ISU Alumni Association
include a golf outing Friday, Aug. 23 (registration was due Aug. 9); a
"Westport After Hours" event Friday evening, a pre-game party in the
clubhouse at Arrowhead Stadium for National Cyclone Club members ($5 per
person) and a pre-game Cyclone Spirit booth with freebies and items for
purchase near gate D-2 outside the stadium. The colleges of Engineering,
Business and Education are sponsoring an all-alumni tailgate party from 4 to
7 p.m. Aug. 24 (RSVPs were due Aug. 2). More information on pre-game
activities is available at this Web site:
http://www.isualum.org/events/eddierobinson.html.
For Iowa Staters staying in Ames but looking for a crowd atmosphere, you may
join new students participating in the Destination Iowa State weekend at a
big screen "Game Watch" in Hilton Coliseum. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.
Admission is free to members of the university community; pop and snack
concessions will be open.
Florida State is ranked third and fourth nationally in the Associated Press
and USA Today/ESPN pre-season polls, respectively. The Seminoles play
in the Atlantic Coast Conference, where they finished second (6-2) last
year.
This will be the second meeting between the two football programs. In 1975,
Iowa State defeated the Seminoles 10-6 in Tallahassee.
