On the street with Inside
Q: What's your favorite thing about summertime on the ISU
campus?
Inside Iowa State asked several employees what they enjoy about their
jobs this time of year. Here's what they said:
 |
"Traffic in and around campus is much easier to handle with fewer people in
town during the summer months. Of course, we (in facilities planning)
typically make up for that with lots of campus street repair and
construction projects."
-- Rick Fox, landscape architect, facilities planning and
management |
"My favorite thing about summer on campus is orientation. It's fun to visit
with all the students -- and their families -- who are excited (and a little
nervous) about starting school in the fall."
-- Stephanie Salasek (right), associate director of admissions

| "The pace in the men's basketball office is different in
the summer -- but not slower. We have several weeks of camp, and recruiting
never ends. We have three coaches out in July traveling to various camps.
Cyclone Club outings, with Coach Eustachy as a frequent speaker, also are
scheduled. Vacations are few and far between. August is the time to prepare
for our new and returning players and the beginning of another recruiting
year. It's a good thing we all enjoy each other's company!"
-- Julie Flory, office coordinator, ISU men's basketball
|
"I think I like all the campus greenery the most. This is such a beautiful
place to work and be with the students."
-- Jan Walker, clinician, College of Education |
 |
 |
"What I like about this time of year is all the new
students and their parents coming to campus, which is pretty exciting.
Another thing is that although some of the students leave for the summer, it
gives us an opportunity to get to know the students who remain in Ames
better."
-- Tom Hill, vice president for student affairs
