Labh Hira has been appointed to a three-year term as dean of the College of
Business, effective July 1. Hira, a professor of accounting, has served as
interim dean of the college since July 2001.
Hira succeeds Ben Allen, who is serving as provost after serving as interim
vice president of external affairs.
"I am very pleased that Labh Hira has agreed to serve as dean of the College
of Business," Allen said. "Labh is highly respected as a faculty member and
administrator by the Iowa State University community, as well as friends and
supporters of the College. He will be an outstanding leader of the College
of Business during a very important time in its history."
Hira joined the faculty in 1982. He was appointed associate dean of the
college in 1996, and senior associate dean in 2000. He served as professor
and chair of accounting and finance from 1992 to 1996.
He received a B.S. and M.S. from Punjab Agricultural University, India; and
a Ph.D. from the University of Missouri, Columbia.
