Patience asked as Carver Co-lab utility work affects walks, parking
Work will continue into early August to extend multiple utility services to
the Carver Co-Laboratory under construction north of the Communications
Building.
The work will impact sidewalks and parking areas in the vicinity of the
Molecular Biology and Communications buildings. Drivers and pedestrians are
asked to observe detour signs and blocked-off work areas.
"We ask that people be flexible and observe the signs as this work moves
northward," said Randy Larabee, electrical utilities and project manager for
several components of the project. "All the work will be done before fall
semester starts."
When all work is complete, storm sewer, sanitary sewer, electrical,
telephone, chilled water (for building heating and cooling) and domestic
water lines will extend north to the Carver site.
Late last week, the north-south sidewalk between Molecular Biology and
Metals Development closed and will remain closed for about two weeks.
Subsequent work will involve closing and tearing up the east-west sidewalk
that runs along the north side of Molecular Biology and, later, the
north-south sidewalk and possibly part of the street that runs between
Molecular Biology and the Communications Building.
The price tag to extend the utility lines to the Carver site is about
$750,000.
