INSIDE IOWA STATE

Bissell Road will be closed May 13-Aug. 1
by Anne Krapfl
Bissell Road, the north-south artery on the west side of campus running
roughly from State Gym to the Communications Building, will be closed to
through traffic for most of the summer.
When it reopens around Aug. 1, it will be a two-lane road, with one lane of
traffic in each direction. In the meantime, the suggested alternate route is
Sheldon Avenue, a block to the west.
The closing is in conjunction with construction work on Hoover Hall, phase 2
of the Engineering Teaching and Research Complex. Crews will be installing
underground utilities and constructing a pedestrian overpass that connects
Hoover and Howe halls.
All four lanes of Bissell east of Howe Hall will close to vehicle traffic on
Monday, May 13. Until May 13, two lanes of Bissell between Union and Osborn
drives most likely will remain closed, but traffic can get through.
Access to parking lots 3 and 13, the Pearson loading dock and parking along
the north side of Black Engineering will be available all summer. Pedestrian
walkways along Bissell also will be maintained during the project.
Four CyRide bus routes --Gray, Blue, Green and Purple --will be affected by
the road closing. CyRide officials said all of the routes will continue
service; alternate routes through west campus still are being negotiated.
