Footloose and wireless
Art and design students work, unwired, in class on their laptops. The
College of Design building was outfitted 18 months ago with seven wireless
hubs, making the entire building essentially a wireless zone. Last fall, the
college launched a laptop computer lease-to-own program for students
accepted into its five professional programs; about 90 students currently
lease computers that way. "We still have our public computer labs, but we
saw this (wireless) as a way to get students back into the studios. In our
digital world, people had started to scatter," said Mike Miller, systems
support specialist for the college. Photo by Bob Elbert.
