Grease is the word.
At least if you're starting to make plans for your Veishea weekend. This
year's Stars Over Veishea (SOV) production will be Grease, the perennial
favorite penned by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey. Performances in Stephens
Auditorium are scheduled for Friday and Saturday, April 19 and 20, at 7:30
p.m., and Sunday, April 21, at 2 p.m.
Geoffrey Tangeman, temporary assistant professor of theater, will direct the
production in an SOV/ISU Theatre collaboration, and Don Simonson, associate
professor of music, will serve as musical director. Luke Foster, a senior
biology major from Traer, is this year's producer.
About 40 ISU students have been rehearsing for Grease since February,
according to Tangeman. The musical first appeared on Broadway in the early
1970s. It focuses on life at Rydell High in 1959, and more importantly, the
romance between greaser Danny Zuko and all-American girl Sandy Dumbrowski.
Musical highlights include Summer Nights, Greased Lightning and Beauty
School Dropout.
Tickets are on sale through Ticketmaster or from the Iowa State Center box
office. Tickets are $10-$15 for adults and $6-$10 for ISU students and ages
18 and under.
