Festival of Lights is Nov. 28
by Anne Krapfl
Iowa State will kick off the winter season with its annual Festival of
Lights celebration Wednesday, Nov. 28.
A short program will begin at 5:15 p.m. on the new front steps of Beardshear
Hall. Preceding it, ISU carillonneur Tin-shi Tam will provide music, and
cookies and hot chocolate will be served. The program will include music by
ISU choir members, lighting of thousands of decorative lights, and brief
remarks by President Gregory Geoffroy.
Following the program, there will be open houses at the Farm House Museum,
the Campanile and University Book Store. Central campus sidewalks will be
lined with luminaries and strolling musicians will entertain passersby. Live
reindeer will be tethered on the MacKay south lawn and horse-drawn wagons
will carry guests around central campus.
The Ames Children's Choir will perform at 6 p.m. on the south steps of
MacKay Hall. From 6:15 to 7 p.m. in the LeBaron Hall east foyer, youngsters
can listen to stories told by families and staff of the Child Development
Lab School and ISU students who are early childhood majors.
