Early retirement option extended
by John McCarroll
University employees who will be eligible for early retirement by June 30,
2002, will have an additional two years to separate from the
university.
President Gregory Geoffroy announced Oct. 19 that, subject to administrative
approval, eligible faculty and staff may request an early retirement date
until June 30, 2004. To be eligible, employees must be at least 57 years old
with at least 15 years of employment at Iowa State.
Approximately 500 Iowa State employees are eligible for the early retirement
program, according to Warren Madden, vice president for business and
finance. All eligible employees will receive information on the early
retirement program from the Office of Human Resource Services.
In June 2001, the Board of Regents, State of Iowa, voted to allow Iowa
State, the University of Iowa and the University of Northern Iowa to decide
whether to provide an extension for the early retirement program.
