Groundbreaking for Carver lab is Saturday
by Teddi Barron
Ceremonial groundbreaking for the Roy J. Carver Co-Laboratory will begin at
9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, north of the Communications Building. The
university community is invited.
The new $12.75 million facility is the first building of the Plant Sciences
Institute. It is named for the Roy J. Carver Charitable Trust, Muscatine,
which gave the lead gift of $3 million.
When completed in the spring of 2003, the three-story, 45,000-square-foot
building will house laboratories, research space for visiting scientists and
small laboratories for business incubators. The Roy J. Carver Co-Laboratory
will include a genomics laboratory with seed analysis facility and plant
growth chambers, biochemistry laboratory suites, laser laboratories, a
computer laboratory and administrative offices.
