Sloss' 100th birthday celebrated during annual Women's Week

"Changing the Climate" is the focus of Women's Week 2001, which will be
celebrated Oct. 8-12, with additional activities scheduled throughout
October.
A party celebrating the 100th birthday of Margaret Sloss, the women's center
namesake, will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 8, at Sloss House.
That evening's lecture will be delivered by Marie Wilson, president of the
Ms. Foundation for Women and the Mary Louise Smith Fall Scholar for the
Carrie Chapman Catt Center for Women and Politics. Wilson's speech, which
begins at 8 p.m. in the Memorial Union Sun Room, is titled "Women and
Power."
Additional lectures during the day Tuesday through Thursday, Oct. 9-11, will
be announced. Evening lectures that week, all scheduled for 8 p.m. in the
Memorial Union Sun Room, include:
- Tuesday, Oct. 9: "Can I Borrow Your Goddess?" presented by Nikki
Bado-Fralick, president of the Midwest American Academy of Religion.
- Wednesday, Oct. 10: "Women Waging War and Peace: Assessing the Gender
Dimension of Conflict," presented by Vijitha Mahadevan Eyango, gender and
education adviser, Asia/Near East bureau, U.S. Agency for International
Development.
- Thursday, Oct. 11: Stacey Ann Chin, a performance poet.
