INSIDE IOWA STATE
September 14, 2001
McCammon will lead T&D office
by Anne Krapfl
Marlise McCammon, associate director of human resource services for employee
relations, also has been named to lead the training and development office.
Former training and development manager Sharon Drake retired from Iowa State
in July.
McCammon told members of the Professional and Scientific Council Sept. 6
that the variety of training classes the unit offers will be smaller for the
short term, due to a shortage in staff trainers and her need to learn the
new ropes while keeping her previous responsibilities.
"We'll rebuild our offerings as we go," she said.
In other council action:
- The council will host a pre-game family tailgate Saturday, Sept. 29, prior
to the Cyclones' football game against Baylor University. Details will be
e-mailed to all P&S staff.
- Linda Brinkmeyer, assistant to the athletic director, will fill a one-year
council seat in external affairs vacated by Vi Hall, formerly of internal
audit.
- Warren Franke, health and human performance, spoke at the open forum
portion of the meeting on the ISU Exercise Clinic for faculty and staff,
which he directs. Franke talked about the difference between exercising for
fitness (goal: a lean, buff body) and exercising for health (goal:
preventing heart disease). He said the clinic focuses on the latter. Classes
are offered in the morning, at noon and after work. For more information,
contact Franke at 4-8257, or visit the clinic's Web site at
http://www.educ.iastate.edu/hhp/outreach/exercise.htm.
The council's next meeting begins at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 1, in the Memorial
Union South Ballroom. A noon open forum will precede the meeting; watch
Today's News on the ISU Web site for the forum topic.
