Q: I noticed in the May 18 story on the solar car team that this years
car carries No. 9, as all of Iowa States solar cars have. Whats the
significance of No. 9 for Team PrISUm?
A: In the drawing for team numbers at the first U.S. solar car race (GM
Sunrayce 1990), number 9 was the last single-digit number available to our
team. We have kept it ever since. The reason for going with a single-digit
number was to take as little space as possible on the cars surface (a
minimum size for numbers and lettering was required by the race
rules).
