Council resumes business

by Erin Rosacker

Professional and Scientific Council members kicked off the new academic year at their Aug. 12 meeting, where they learned the P&S Handbook is transitioning to the university's online policy library.

Part of that transition includes the Dismissal, Reorganization or Financial Conditions policy, which has been revised and posted online for public comment through Sept. 2. P&S Council members will vote next month on a motion to approve the draft policy.

Other business

  • Associate vice president for human resource services Carla Espinoza said the popular 12+ supervisory leadership program will not be eliminated by budget cuts, but changes were made to the "look, tenor and textbook." The participation fee also will increase for future sessions.
  • Funding for the council's retention and recruitment grants was eliminated in budget cuts. Last year, more than $43,000 was awarded to campus programs aimed at the recruitment and retention of students.
  • Dean of students Dionne Sommerville and recreation services interim director Scott White will provide an update on the recreation renovation and expansion project at the Sept. 3 P&S open forum (noon-1 p.m., Pioneer Room, MU).

Summary

The P&S Council heard that the popular 12+ supervisory leadership program survived budget cuts. However, funding for the council's recruitment and retention program was eliminated.
