An easier way for faculty and staff to renew parking permits

by Diana Pounds

Renewing your campus parking permit will be considerably easier this spring. Instead of writing vehicle information and license plate numbers on paper forms, you'll sign on to AccessPlus and complete the renewal process in a few clicks.

The new system will be more convenient for customers, said Mark Miller, manager of the department of public safety's parking division. It also eliminates the need to mail thousands of paper forms each year to faculty and staff.

Online renewal May 1-June 30

The online renewal period is May 1 through June 30. To renew your permit, sign on to AccessPlus (accessplus.iastate.edu), click the "employee" tab and then "parking division." Your current information will appear on the screen. You will need to verify that the information parking has about you is correct and select your current campus address and primary vehicle. Then click "submit" on the permit page.

If you purchased your vehicle permit with payroll deduction this past year, your renewal will continue to be paid via that method. If you did not use payroll deduction and paid in full for your permit last year, your renewal payment will be added to your U-bill. You may pay your U-bill directly to the Treasurer's Office (1220 Beardshear).

New permits will be mailed before July 1 to your official campus address. Remember to destroy your old permit as soon as you receive your new one.

The online option is available only to faculty and staff who are renewing parking permits on personal vehicles. A similar option will be available for returning students.

You'll still need to drop by the parking office or mail in paper applications if you're:

  • A new permit holder
  • Wishing to change your permit type or parking lot
  • Purchasing a departmental or vendor pass permit
  • Buying any kind of permit for a state vehicle
  • Buying any kind of permit with an intramural purchase order

Miller said he hopes these and others kinds of parking transactions can be added to AccessPlus in the future.

Summary

Online parking permit renewals via AccessPlus begin May 1.
