Solar decathlon house

Construction engineering students (from left) sophomore Tyler Thomas, graduate student Aaron Brncich (also the construction engineer for the house) and senior Trevor Hanus work outdoors on the initial assembly of ISU Solar Decathlon team's modular 800-square-foot Interlock House. This summer, students will complete the construction and interior finishes, and practice assembling and disassembling the house before transporting it in October to the 20-team Solar Decathlon in Washington, D.C. You may see their progress during an open house Friday, April 25, from 3 to 5 p.m. at 1220 Southern Hills Dr. (tucked between Highway 30 and Airport Road in south Ames). Photo by Bob Elbert.
