Hotline reminder

Iowa State contracts with a third-party hotline vendor, EthicsPoint, to allow anonymous reporting of activities that may involve criminal, unethical or otherwise inappropriate behavior impacting ISU. During 2008, 11 reports were submitted to EthicsPoint via Internet or phone, and all were investigated. If a person submitting a report agrees, an anonymous chat or conversation may be arranged via the EthicsPoint system to aid the investigation. Submit reports by calling 866-384-4277, or go online.

Women's club meeting is Feb. 16

The next general meeting of the ISU Women's Club is at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 16, in the Fireside Room of Northminster Presbyterian Church, Ames. Linda Emmerson will present "The Art of the Scissors -- Scherenschnitte." Participants should bring small sharp scissors (manicure type) to practice.

Location change for Coffee, Tea and English

Coffee, Tea and English, an informal English conversation gathering to benefit international students, has changed its gathering location to 212 Ross. Meeting time remains unchanged: Fridays 4:30-6 p.m. Native English-speaking volunteers are always welcome to join the group.

Sea kayaking in Alaska

Outdoor Recreation Services is sponsoring a sea kayaking trip in Alaska June 23-July 1. It's open to students, employees and the public. Cost for faculty and staff is $1,718 and includes airfare, motel, equipment, food and more. Call 4-8200 for more information.

Alum returns to give distinguished lecture

ISU alumnus and former faculty member Michael Boehlje, an agricultural economist at Purdue University, West Lafayette, Ind., will present the 2009 College of Agriculture and Life Sciences Distinguished Lecture Feb. 19. "The Landscape of Agriculture Today and Tomorrow" begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Memorial Union Sun Room. It's free and open to the public. Boehlje will speak on the importance of strategic planning for long-term viability and success. His work focuses on integrating concepts of economics, finance and strategy to solve problems of farm and agribusiness managers.

Scholarship, honors deadlines at the YWCA

Feb. 27 is the deadline for both the YWCA Ames-ISU's scholarship application and its Women of Achievement nominations. Two $1,000 scholarships will be awarded (one undergraduate, one graduate) to female students.

The Women of Achievement award winners (women and a business/organization in Story County) will be honored at an April 22 ceremony. Recipients may be professionals, volunteers or students who have demonstrated an ability to empower women or fight against racism, and are respected as leaders or role models. Nomination forms and applications are available at 210 Lab of Mechanics, 4-1663, or online.
