The intent of the symposium is to identify sustainability initiatives the university can and should pursue to become a model sustainable campus, as well as strategies to engage the ISU community in those initiatives. Registration is required for Feb. 10 events only, but there is no cost to attend. Symposium information, including online registration, is available from the Live Green! web site. The scheduleEvents begin Monday, Feb. 9, in the Great Hall with a poster session and reception (7-7:55 p.m.) and lecture (8 p.m.) by Larry Shinn, president of Berea College, Kentucky, for the last 14 years. Berea's sustainability initiative includes creating a sustainability and environmental studies program, completing ecological renovations of many campus buildings and establishing a residential "ecovillage" for student families. Members of the university community who would like to present at the poster session may contact planning committee member Gene Takle, 4-9871, gstakle@iastate.edu. Feb. 10 events (7:45 a.m.-3 p.m.) in the Sun Room include a keynote address by Shinn, discussions by faculty and student panels, large-group sessions on campus recycling and ISU's carbon footprint, and facilitated breakout sessions. Questions about the symposium may be directed to planning committee chair Tahira Hira, 4-2042, tkhira@iastate.edu. |
